The Transponder Car Key

Since 1995 all makes and models of cars have now been fitted with a transponder microchip system. This system functions around two primary components, the processor found in the cars ECU and the transponder microchip embedded in the head of the ignition key. When an attempt to start the vehicle is made, the processor recognised the code sent by the microchip, the vehicle will be allowed to start. If the code does not match, the vehicle will not start.

Peugeot Transponder Keys

We cut and program keys for most models of Peugeot such as 106, 206, 306, 307, 406, 407, 607, 806, 807 and 1007. We also cut and program keys for Partner, Expert and Ranch. If you require a remote key fob with 2 or 3 button fob, these are generally in stock. All keys for Peugeot since 1995 have a transponder chip and need to be coded or programmed to the car. A 4 digit pin code is required for the key or the remote fob to be programmed.


The 4 digit pin code is found on the security card that is supplied by the dealer when the car is purchased. If you do not have the security code we can purchase it on your behalf at a cost of £20. Transponders

From approximately 1995, Peugeot began to use a transponder chip for the immobiliser system within their key fobs – although not right across their whole range. If your Peugeot vehicle has an immobiliser keypad installed, then it does not use the transponder chip system.


The transponder chip contains a code which corresponds with the ignition system in the vehicle. Without it, the vehicle will not start. Even though the engine may turn, it will not fire up.

The system works basically as follows: Once you insert your key into the ignition and turn, the ECU (your vehicle’s computer) interrogates the transponder chip within your key fob. If it transmits the correct code, the ECU will allow the vehicle to start – otherwise the vehicle will remain immobilised.


Security Card

Every new Peugeot vehicle using this system is supplied with a security code card (credit card sized) in case you should need new keys. The code itself cannot be used to program new keys but allows access to the vehicle’s immobiliser system so that new keys can be programmed to it. Programming the transponder chip requires the specialist equipment. It is advisable to not leave the card in the glove compartment as this is vital information if you lose the keys to your car.


We are able to cut and programme keys and key fobs for all models of Peugeot cars and vans. If you have lost your only key, we are able to cut a new key and if you have a key fob remote, then we can programme these as well. The first thing we need from you is the Securitycard. This is normally found in the service manual normally located in the glove compartment.


Remotes/Fobs

The Peugeot range of car and van remotes can look generic in sight, but are not all the same. If you have a Peugeot 206 for duplication, or a Peugeot 307 key from 2002, they will accept the same remote key fobs. These are two button remotes for opening and closing the doors. From the outside of these key fobs, they look the same but they are not programmable if used on the wrong vehicle.


Models and years

Programming Peugeot 206 keys up to 2001 have two types of key. There is a simple key with a transponder chip inside, or a one button fob remote which both need a 206 plip programming to the car. If you would like a Peugeot 206 key replacement from 2001, the remote has changed to a two button remote key fob. Programming a 206 key fob has to be done with any other fobs that you have otherwise programming Peugeot 206 keys will be necessary. If need be, you can have just the Peugeot fob reprogrammed if the signal fails to program plips, fobs, or keys on this model. Then the Peugeot 206 new key code is required.


Peugeot replacement 406 key programming is also available here. The Peugeot 406 remote key 1996 to 1998 and the Peugeot 406 transponder from 1999 onwards have different transponder chip I.D. Peugeot 406 key rob programming and reprogramming is also available. Please note that it is not possible to have a duplicate key for 406 without reprogramming the plip.


The Peugeot 407 three button flip or flick key is a newer type of key. To reprogramme a 407 key fob or replacement remote fob, you will again, need to have the security code.


For a Peugeot 106 replacement key and the Peugeot 306 from 1996 onwards have the same transponder key and transponder ID. Later models of the key fob Peugeot 306 1 button key can also be programmed. We have a wide range of Peugeot transponder keys in stock including the Peugeot 407 and Peugeot 1007 flick key with remote control id46 keys.


Later models of Peugeot are also available to be supplied and programmed such as the Peugeot 806 remote locking key and the Peugeot 407 replacement key fob as well as the 1007 new key fob. Please note that we are not Auto Locksmiths that assist with broken locks and ignition problems. We are only able to supply, reprogram, and program Peugeot keys. We can still supply Peugeot keys from pre 1994 without transponder chips.
